Opening Letter

Dear Delegates,

Greetings of Peace!

Commemorating its 19th year of existence on promoting and maintaining diplomacy as the nexus and forefront of lasting international peace and solidarity, the School of Diplomacy and Governance of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde is cordially inviting each and every student to ignite a spark of change by participating in the 19th Benilde Model United Nations. For nearly two decades, BenildeMUN has been consistent on its efforts in terms of bringing ways of learning in the field of diplomacy and international relations into greater heights by invigorating the capabilities of students at the tertiary level to engage into substantive discussions on timely and relevant global issues.

As the largest and pioneer Collegiate Model United Nations in the Philippines, BenildeMUN provides a platform wherein delegates are given the opportunity to be representatives of various countries around the world in addressing relevant issues in the political, economic, and socio-cultural facets of society that are of relevance to the international community. Since its creation in 1998, the annual Benilde Model United Nations conference has provided active collaboration and concerted efforts amongst Benildean and non-Benildean students, both from the local and international level, that specialize in various fields of interest and expertise.

The theme for this year’s Benilde Model United Nations is “Promoting Sustainability Amidst Shifting Global Trends.” In order to provide an avenue for participants the opportunity to portray the role of diplomats, the 19th BenildeMUN aims to call upon the generation of today to formulate pragmatic and sustainable solutions to real-world problems faced by various nations across the globe. BenildeMUN shall have five different plenary bodies, which are as follows: (1) General Assembly (UNGA); (2) Security Council (UNSC); (3) Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC); (4) World Health Organization (WHO); and (5) Special Political and Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL).

The 19th BenildeMUN will be held on July 12 – July 15, 2017 in the following campuses: Taft Campus, School of Design and Arts, and Angelo King International Center, respectively. It would be of our utmost pleasure and honor to have your presence at the respective plenaries for this year’s conference, which shall be comprised of both local and international students.

In this regard, we are pleased to inform you that in our effort in promoting inclusivity and solidarity as one of main objectives, the 19th Benilde Model United Nations shall be opening a window of opportunity for Senior High School Students, as well as fellow Benildean students from School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies program. In addition, the 19th BenildeMUN is to provide deserving students that will be participating as delegates an opportunity to be given financial assistance that is to be waived off from their conference through an extensive selection process.

We are looking forward to your participation and we are hoping to see you in the conference this July.
